GB’s Under 15s ended their trip to Trieste on a real high, beating France 11 - 8 in the final game of the placing round, thus securing top spot. The two teams came into today’s games unbeaten in this phase of the competition.

GB took the lead in the top of the first and never looked back, plating six runs in the fifth before a scare in the sixth as France scored three of their own.

Once again the hitting of Charlie Battista (.714 across the competition) and Ted Conway (.615 and 7 RBIs for the week) led the way, but they were ably supported by Zach Profit who hit both a triple and double. Six stolen bases also helped GB to keep runners moving and France on the back foot.

On the mound, Battista started and threw 3 and two thirds innings for 3 runs (2 earned) before handing over to Lucas de Lope, Jacob Henry and Owen Wagner. Henry was credited with the win and Wagner the save.

Across the tournament as a whole, the GB team had the second highest batting average, most runs scored and lowest number of walks. With 19 stolen bases and 7 triples, the team has lots to be proud of.

GB Team Manager Ian Griebenow said:
“This was a great way to end our week in Italy and I’m very proud of how the whole team came together for this one. Beating France is no easy task and they stuck at it, forcing us to be at our best in all aspects of the game.”

“The boys will return home with their heads held high. I have seen this squad come on a lot in the past few months and even more so this week.”
