Great Britain’s Rich Baseball History

We have a rich baseball history. In 1749, the first recorded game took place in Walton-on-Thames in Surrey.

With GB Baseball set to make history at the 2023 World Baseball Classic, we take a look back at some of the key moments in our sport.

2023 - GB take part in the World Baseball Classic for the first time

2022 - GB wins WBCQ & GB Women take part in the European Championships

2021 - BBF/WB-UK Womens Baseball League begins

2019 - MLB London Series - Yankees v Red Sox

2010 - Margaret Borley MBE becomes the first woman inducted into the British Hall of Fame

2009 - GB participate in the Baseball World Cup for the first time since 1938

2009 - The British Baseball Hall of Fame is established

2007 - GB win silver medal at the European Championships - GB's best result at the tournament to date.

2001 - Gavin Marshall becomes the first born and raised UK player to play professionally in the US.

1987 - British Baseball Federation founded

1938 - GB beats US in the World Cup

1933 - National Baseball Association founded

1890 - First British baseball league begins

1749 - the first recorded game of baseball is played in Ashley Park, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey
