Minford throws a no-hitter as London Mets sweep BC Vetra

A no hitter from London Mets pitcher Rich Minford set the tone for a dominant sweep by the defending champions over BC Vetra in Enfield on Sunday.

Minford struck out seven Vetra batters over four innings in a 15-0 win for his second pitching victory of the season.

He showed he was a two-way threat, and shone offensively over both matches, scoring three runs and driving in one.

Game two was another dominant performance for the Mets. Ryan McLaughlin and Chris Messer took over pitching duties from Minford, and also gave the BC Vetra offence a hard time, leading the Mets to a 12-0 win to complete the sweep.

Shortstop Marc Theberge led the Mets offensively with five runs and four RBI over both games. First baseman/ left fielder Michael Florentino also scored five runs with one RBI.

After his team's dominant performance in both games, manager Derrick Cook said: “We played solid in all aspects of the game. The team played well. It was a great team win.”

NBL Bournemouth Bears v Essex Arrows

Bournemouth Bears lost the opening series of their debut NBL season 9-1 and 5-2 to Essex Arrows at the Townmead Playing Fields.

Shortstop Roger Cedeno scored the Bears first NBL run after being driven in by Marco Pestana at the top of the seventh inning.

For the Arrows, Jose Rodríguez, Richard Chesterton, Angel Chira, and Angel Perez each contributed two of the Essex side’sl 14 runs over both games.

Rodríguez now leads the NBL in batting average, RBIs, stolen bases, and hits.

Croydon Pirates sweep the Essex Saxons 14-0 and 4-3.

Herts Cardinals defeat Hurricanes Baseball 8-3 and 14-3 in a two-game series.
