Higher ranked Czechia just too strong for U15s

GB’s Under 15s fell short against higher ranked opposition on day two of the European Championships in Trieste, falling 11 - 3 to Czechia.

Yesterday’s pitcher, Charles Battista went 2 for 2 with a double and a walk and a stolen base, but it was otherwise slim pickings at the plate.

Starting pitcher Jacob Henry shone on the mound for the first three innings, allowing just two hits and one walk to three strike outs before being lifted after conceding a two run homer in the fourth. The relief faltered to allow the Czechs a deserved win.

The final group game tomorrow sees GB take on the lower ranked Hungary. With no chance of now qualifying for the championship semi-finals, the Brits will be looking to boost their confidence before the placing games start on Friday.

“It’s no disgrace to lose against a higher ranked team,” said Head Coach Ian Griebenow. “The Czechs played very well with some very good hitting which we simply couldn’t match today. But we won’t let our heads drop and will be looking to show GB baseball at its best tomorrow and for the remainder of the tournament.”
