MARCELINO APPOINTED GB BASEBALL HEAD COACH and GBR OLYMPIC MANAGER

British Baseball Hall of Fame member and GB Baseball stalwart, Bradley Marcelino, has been appointed as Head Coach for the Great Britain Baseball senior national team and GBR Olympic Manager.

“It is a great honour to be Great Britain Baseball Team’s next manager as we get ready to compete on the world stage.” said Marcelino, who is also the hitting coordinator for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

“We have come a long way since my days as a player and I’d like to thank all of my teammates, coaches, staff, and families who’ve helped elevate this programme. We are not done and I look forward to taking this programme to the next level.”

Born in Essex, England, Marcelino made his playing debut for the national team at the European Championships in 1999 and saw a playing career that spanned over three decades, concluding with the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers.

Among his many achievements, he ranks first all-time in games played and runs scored, second in hits, and third in RBIs.

He was elected to the British Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018 after a successful playing career. His father Oscar Marcelino also played for Team GB.

He was an integral part of the GB staff at the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers and at the 2023 World Baseball Classic itself when GB made its debut and secured a historic win over Colombia.

Since his retirement from playing, he has built an impressive coaching résumé of 20+ years with stops at the University of San Diego, the Seattle Mariners, and currently as the hitting coordinator with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

“Brad has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the Great Britain programme over many years, contributing significantly to its development and performance and we are delighted at the prospect of him taking the team to new heights during his tenure,” said Richard Evans, President of the British Baseball Federation.

Marcelino will be part of the Performance Management Group led by Gary Anderson, Performance Director and Olympic Team Leader at BasebalSoftballUK.

“His deep-rooted association with our national team structure ensures a seamless transition into this leadership role and brings invaluable institutional knowledge that few can match,” said Gary Anderson.

“Equally important is his standing within Major League Baseball (MLB), where he has earned respect for his professionalism, leadership, and results. His global profile reinforces our ambition and standing on the world stage.”
